The Editing Process
Prospective clients often want to know what exactly the process will be, but the truth is that our specialty is in adapting to the unique and particular needs of each client. So, the process will be whatever is most useful for that client in that particular moment, to meet the goals for that project. This personalized service and relationship are the hallmark of Together Editing & Design.
In general, most clients work with our staff through email, telephone, and Skype. The editing client simply emails their file as a Word (or other Office) document. We review the file and make editing recommendations using the Track Changes and Comments features of Word; instructions in using those features are returned along with the edited file. Once the client has reviewed the file, a telephone or Skype meeting is arranged to discuss any questions that remain. This back-and-forth process can continue through several iterations, until the writing is fully polished.
When necessary or preferred, in-person meetings can be arranged (near our offices in Palo Alto, Redwood City, Oakland, or Millbrae/Pacifica). Our staff will also travel to the client, with the understanding that travel time is billed at the same rate. As an example of the variety of possibilities, certain clients have benefitted most from working in parallel with us, talking and writing and collaborating together to create the draft that is later edited by Together Editing & Design staff. Together, we and the client do whatever is most helpful so the client can progress as a writer and meet their needs of the moment.
