The first Together Editing client was a Japanese PhD candidate in 2004 whose second language issues prevented her dissertation draft from conveying the sophistication of her research and her thesis. Her committee could not accept her draft as it was, and she turned to Anna for help. After this client’s dissertation had been accepted, a member of her dissertation committee called to thank Anna. Not only did the client receive her PhD, but she gained a much better understanding of why her Japanese-influenced writing was not properly communicating her thinking to native speakers of English. Impressed by the transformation in the client’s writing and understanding, her dissertation chair later came to Anna for an editor and collaborator for his manuscript.
